I recently listened to a talk about risk taking. Many of us
only take risks when the pay off is too good to refuse or we know we will be
successful. However, there are many of us who never make the jump. The speaker
made an interesting point. He said we are all playing it safe because we are
afraid of making mistakes and failing. He says that the richest place on earth
is the graveyard because of all the dreams and opportunities that died with
each individual. He goes on to say that at the end of the day no one gets out
of life alive so you might as well take the leap of faith.
The thought is a little morbid; however, there is a lot of
truth to what he is saying. Taking a leap of faith is a scary thing but I have
found that even when I am not successful I am still happier. At the end of the
day a mistake is only a problem if you do not learn from it. Listening to this
talk while a little morbid made me realize that I do not want to live with any
regrets. I want to take advantage of every opportunity and every risk no matter
how intimidating they are.
Do you have any regrets as a result of opportunities you
have not taken? Do you have some opportunities you have shied away from? What opportunities
and risks are you willing to take?
