Do
you ever feel like you cannot be yourself? Do you feel like you have to hide
who you are? Do you feel people will not like you for you?
Some
people have enough self-confidence to not let people rattle them. But for many
people self-confidence is a source of insecurity and anxiety, this does not
have to be the case. Self-confidence is something I have to work towards
everyday and some days are easier than others. Struggling with self-confidence
is not a pleasant feeling. I know it is a difficult pill to swallow and it can
be extremely difficult to pull yourself up. When people feel inadequate they
often try to change themselves.
Everyone
has something they do not like about themselves and wish they could change. At
some point we all want to change ourselves to become a “better” person. I feel this way sometimes and it is okay. It is natural to feel a
little insecure about yourself sometimes. Other times you feel everyone is just
waiting for you to choke.
Trust
me trying to change yourself will solve nothing. No matter how many times you
change, someone will always be telling you to change something else. Women and
girls are often the ones who have the most issues with self-confidence. Today's
society is focused on the "perfect woman." The "perfect
woman" everyone talks about is nonexistent. The "perfect women"
is on extreme diets, caked with make-up, is photo shopped, has gotten plastic surgery and the list goes on.
These women are fake.
Society
is constantly trying to manipulate girls to fit into the boxes they believe
they should fit in. Everyone wants people in society to have these flawless
lives they read about in fairy tales. Trying to live this fairytale life is a
lonely existence and you become a gold fish in a glass bowl where everyone is watching
your every move waiting for you to mess up.
Girls
are told from a young age that they are too fat, too skinny, ugly, will not amount to anything, and more. There is absolutely no
reason for anyone to be told any of these things. No one should be forced to
change who they are in order to fit the mold people believe they should fit and
no one should ever be made to feel ashamed of who they are.
Women
are constantly criticized about everything you can imagine. No one should ever
be criticized to the point where they feel they do not have a purpose. It is
our job to not allow people to make us feel this way. I have discovered you are
your biggest cheerleader. Your parents are people who cheer for you but no one
is going to fight for you like you will. After all if you do not believe in
yourself who else will? No one else will believe in you as much as you believe
in you.
My
advice is to be yourself because you is pretty amazing! No, you are not perfect
but neither is anyone else. You do not have to be perfect because your flaws
and quirks make you unique. I have learned to love and embrace all my flaws
because that’s me. I try to live my life that way everyday, when I
get up I decide that I am going to stay true to myself. It can be difficult in
today’s world because so many things pull you in different directions. I
challenge you to embrace yourself and mean it.
