Family is something we all have in some form or another. For
some of us it is our biological family while others have an assortment of
people who have influenced our lives. Regardless of our family make up, our
families are comprised of people who have had a great deal of impact on our
lives and have shaped us into the people we are today. Our families serve as
our support system through the difficult times and celebrate with us when we
achieve success.
We often take our families for granted. We think they will
always be there when we need them, forever and always. We get so caught up in
our own lives that we forget to make time for our families. We often come to
the realization when it is either almost too late or it is too late.
Last week served as a wake up call for me. My grandma is
traveling in Europe with my aunt and one of her friends. I remember thinking
five weeks was not very long and I would see her when she got back. Well God
had a different plan, my grandma fell while she was traveling and broke three
limbs and is undergoing surgery in a foreign country. She needs surgery but
also about three months of therapy. Her trip went from being five weeks to most
likely needing to stay for over three months in a split second. When I got the
news my heart broke because I am not sure the next time I will be able to see
her in person.
I think the point I am trying to get at is life is not forever.
We are all human and as the Bible says we are dust and to dust you shall
return. We do not have the power to prevent this; however, we do have the power
to make sure the people we care about the most know how much we love them. Do
not live a life wishing that you had the courage to tell them. Do it. You
will never regret telling them how much you care about them.
