I will be happy when...

So many people say I will be happy when…I will be happy when I get a new car. I will be happy when I have more money. I will be happy when I have the right wardrobe. We will be happy when…

We are all guilty of wanting more in order to be “happy.” We think if we finally achieve what we set out to do we will finally be happy; however, material things do not bring you happiness. We certainty do feel joy and accomplishment when we finally achieve our goals or get something we really wanted but it does not make you truly happy. If you cannot learn to be happy now you will not be happy when you have achieved and gotten everything you set out to do.

It took a while for the meaning of this to really sink in. The best example I can think of is money. Unfortunately, in today’s society we are trained to see our worth in dollar signs. From a young age we think if I just make this much money I will be happy but it’s a never-ending cycle, we always want more. Money cannot buy you happiness but a lot of us have been conditioned to think this is the case. Instead of money making us happy, it enslaves us in a sense because we always feel the need to have more than we do now. No matter how hard we try to achieve “happiness” it will never come. If you cannot learn to be happy now you will not be happy when you have that dollar figure in your bank either.

You only have one life to live do not waste it being unhappy. Find what makes you happy and just go for it. Waiting for things in the future to make you happy are a waste of time and create a never-ending cycle of ever-increasing want. Learn to love where you are and be happy.
