I originally had a different post planned for today, but
Sadie Robertson uploaded a video to YouTube on Saturday that I just had to share
with you. Briefly, for those of you who do not know Sadie, she is an incredible
individual who encourages people to live their faith and live original.
Sadie is a true inspiration to young girls especially as she is always
authentically herself and does not compromise.
How do you define your worth? By the nice things you have or
the lack there of? Or by what other
people think and say about you? Or by your physical appearance? We all struggle
with determining our worth. The world does not make it easy for us to see our worth. We are influence by what people say about us and by how we
measure up to others. We become so absorbed in the world that we forget we are priceless. There will never be
another human being quite like you. You are unique and special in your own way.
You have skills and talents that are uniquely yours.
In this video Sadie addresses the issue of self-worth. For
girls especially self-worth is something we struggle with. We are constantly
exposed to an “ideal” image of beauty. We see models in magazines or our
friends we wish we could look more like. We tell ourselves if we could just
loose a little more off our waist then we will be happy. We think that somehow if
we change ourselves people will like us more.
My favorite line Sadie shared is, “We stop respecting
ourselves because we don’t think we are ever going to be respected by someone
else because we accept the reality we have been given. We accept the numbers.
We accept all of these things that we don’t have too.” Many people accept the
world we live in. They compromise themselves to “fit in.” They become someone else and loose respect for themselves. But life does not have to be this way. We do not have to accept
the world as it is. We can continue to wait for our fairytale and not loose our
respect for ourselves.
Continue believing in the fairytale you are dreaming of. Do
not compromise for anything because you are worth more. You deserve that fairytale
you are dreaming of. You are worth more than any number someone can give you.
You are priceless and do not ever forget that.
