Review: Scrappy Little Nobody

Many of you probably recognize Anna Kendrick from Pitch Perfect, Twilight, or one of the countless other films she has been in. Personally, I had not heard of her until she was in the movie Pitch Perfect. Since that film has come out I have developed a deep respect for Anna Kendrick. Anna is a really unique and quirky individual. She continues to promote originality and embracing who you are.

In her book, her personality is extremely evident. She shares a series of short stories from her life that give you insight to her personality and how she has dealt with life’s challenges. I have a deep appreciate for her determination to remain true to herself. She did not try to cover anything up. She was very honest about her experiences: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I found her book very refreshing because we can all relate to her experiences in some capacity and it is comforting to know that we are not the only ones going through those situations. When an individual is put into a similar situation like Anna it is really easy to be changed by the fame. I thought it was really telling when Anna talked about red carpet events and how she felt like she was not herself because she was wearing outfits she could not afford. I found this interesting because people do not usually talk about this because they want the illusion to remain intact but Anna did. In a nutshell she said that I am just a girl from Maine in a really expensive dress that I did not pay for and at the end of the night I have to give back and return to my humble wardrobe.

It is time we are all realistic with ourselves. Life is not all sunshine and rainbows. There are days when life is rainy, muddy, and it really stinks. We need to stop trying to convince those around us and ourselves that everyday is great. It is okay to admit that your day is not going well, your life does not have to be perfect. In allowing yourself to have that freedom you will see that you will start to have more good days then bad because you are not stressed about what everyone else thinks of you.

Have you read Anna Kendrick’s book? What did you think of it? Do you feel like we need to stop comparing ourselves to famous individuals? Do you think people need to start living a more carefree life style to be able to enjoy experiences more?
