Finding Your Passion...

Finding our passion sounds really intimidating and overwhelming. On top of that you have people around you trying to tell you, which path you should go down. And then there is the added pressure that you do not want to disappoint the people around you and you want to succeed. Many people will try and convince you to find a career where there is job security and you can make a decent living. This process can become extremely confusing when you are being pulled in so many different directions. Not only are you being pulled in multiple directions but also there are endless possibilities to choose from.

Going through this process is certainly overwhelming but it is important to be honest and yourself. I am a firm believer that you should not have to go searching for your passion. Your passion is within you, it is not something you need to consult outside resources. Your passion is within you so the best thing for you to do is self reflect and figure out what you love and enjoy doing. Your passion is something you already love. It may take some digging to figure it out. Here is what I mean, let’s say that when you were younger you really enjoyed reading. You loved being able to escape into another world when you were reading so you decided to become a writer to create those stores for others.

I am a firm believer that you should turn your passion into your career. Your passion should always be your Plan A. I am currently reading a book called Bawse by Lilly Singe (which by the way you should definitely read it if you have not already). In one chapter she addresses how everyone wants you to have a back up plan. Lilly included an extremely insightful quote from Kate Winslet that really embodies this, "If you really want to do something, don’t have a Plan B. Having a Plan B means you’re expecting your Plan A to fail, and that isn’t the right attitude." How true is that. When you create a backup plan you do not believe enough in your Plan A. Instead of putting your energy into creating Plan B put that energy into your Plan A. Plan A is the only plan. Some people will tell you it is not practical or it will never work out. People will tell you that you should get a “safe” career and work on your passion on the side.

People will always doubt you. They will try and tear down your dreams. People always want to take the safe route and they want to tear anyone down who does not choose the same path. Find your passion and follow it even when other people doubt you. You have to believe in your passion enough that other people’s doubt do not affect you. If you put your mind to it and put in the work you will succeed. It will not be easy but if you are willing to put in the work you will succeed.

What is your passion? Do you have your Plan A laid out? How can you set yourself up for success?
