“I do think that most of us experience as happiness is a
combination of three things: being able to experience pleasure in a
spontaneous, playful, sensual way; being content with what we have in life and
staying present and grateful; and getting in touch with what matters most.” –
Kate Hudson
When I picked up this book up from Barnes & Noble I was feeling really discouraged. I had just completed my freshman year of college
and I was questioning everything. I remember picking up the book and looking at
the cover wishing I could be that happy. The first time I read this book I felt
extremely happy and optimistic.
This is my second time reading this book and the above
excerpt is the quote I feel is the most important and really embodies the
entire book. Happiness is definitely a process but I do think these three are
the foundation of being truly happy. I have found that I am the happiest when I
am spontaneous and playful. Life can become so heavy but in order to combat
this feeling we must embrace our silly side and stop trying to plan every
second. It is important to be content and always stay present. Everyone is
constantly wishing they had more instead of being grateful for what they
already have, which is the road to unhappiness. We also must be present; it is
easy to just go through the motions instead of being apart of the experience.
Finally is to get in touch with what matters. We get so consumed by trends,
material things, status etc. that we forget what is truly important to us.
I am certainly guilty of making these mistakes. Happiness is
a continual process and it is different for everyone. If you are not happy with
your life it is time to make a change. Pick up this book and dig deep to find
what truly makes you happy.
What brings you joy? What takes away your energy? What do
you wish you did more often?
