Asking for a Spotter...

There are some days where it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and you feel like you cannot handle it. We all feel that way sometimes but that does not have to become your daily reality. It is critical that you create a support system for yourself.

In 1 Corinthians 10-13 it talks about how God does not give us more than we can handle. I know not everyone is religious but I think this statement holds true for all of us. There may be times when you have a lot on your plate but we were not meant to carry the weight of everything on our shoulders. We were meant to live in community with one another and lift each other up when we see someone who needs help or is struggling. I know what it feels like to take on too much and not be able to handle it but then not wanting to admit I have taken on too much.

We tend to feel embarrassed when we have to ask someone for help but we should not feel this way. You can think of it like a spotter for a weight lifter. Professional weight lifters have a lot of experience doing what they do. They practice their lifts hundreds of times and are used to the feeling of having that additional pressure. No matter how many times they have practiced their lift they always have a spotter. Their spotter is there as a safety precaution, if the lifter needs to drop or something goes wrong they are there to take on some of the weight from the lifter. When we ask for help or support we are not giving up what we are actually doing is asking for a spotter. You are asking someone to be there for you and if there comes a point where you need someone to temporarily take some of the weight you are carrying, they are there for you.

There is nothing in this world that you are not capable of handling. Make sure you surround yourself with people who love and support you, who only want you to succeed. And most importantly remember there is no shame in asking for help or support because you are actually asking for a spotter.
