How to Improve Your Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is something everyone struggles with, especially today. We are all so connected today, which has positive and negative consequences. The positive is that it allows us to be apart of special moments we might not have been able to in the past. However, the negative is that you only see the “highlight reel’s” of everyone else’s life, which can lead to a feeling of not being enough and low self-esteem. Social media is a big source of many people’s insecurities. It is important to understand that the majority of people are posting the best picture they took and there are a number of others they chose not to post. I also think it is important to limit the time you spend on social media, not only for the sake of productivity but for your self-esteem. It is not healthy to constantly be comparing yourself to others, check one or two times and that is it.

Our lives are also becoming more sedentary. Exercise is so important to our overall health and it influences how many of us view ourselves. Many of us struggle with our self-esteem because we do not feel comfortable in our own bodies, working out can help with that. You should exercise because it makes you feel good about yourself, not because you want to be skinnier or look like someone else. Exercise because you want to feel good about yourself not because you want to look like someone else. If you are trying to look like someone else you are going to start the negative cycle. You will be constantly comparing yourself to them but you will never look like them because you are different people and body types.

Self-esteem is something we all struggle with and it effects how we view ourselves and the world around us. It is important to develop a healthy sense of self-esteem so you can feel good about who you are and have a positive view of the world around you.
